Do You Need a Masters Degree for Robotics?

BY John Elstad

Does one need a masters degree in engineering to get a job within robotics? The short answer is, "Sure, it helps. But may not be a totally necessity in this day and age." A bachelors degree may be necessary for certain jobs, and a high school diploma for others.

Noted billionaire Elon Musk has even gone as far as saying college degrees should not be necessary to get jobs at his companies, which include Tesla and SpaceX. He's been quoted as saying,

“I think college is basically for fun and to prove that you can do your chores, but they’re not for learning."

Musk goes on to say that people have the ability to learn whatever they want to online for free, as long as they seek it out. His focus is on “exceptional ability” vs. success in an academic setting. This is definitely food for thought as we progress further into the 21st century.

Does Clarity Robotics Require a Masters Degree?

At Clarity, we do not require a masters degree to be eligible for our engineering opportunities. However, it is preferred. We share Musk's belief that exceptional ability trump's an educational resume, and strive to fill our roles with the most qualified individuals. If having a masters helps an individual meet that goal, we want them on our team.

You can view available Robotics Engineering Jobs at the list on the right. If you feel that your ability is exceptional, we invite you to apply today.
